Chapter 19: The Lion of Macedon
Ethan stood at the edge of a massive war encampment. The air smelled of iron, sweat, and fire. Trumpets echoed through the valley as dust clouds rose—Alexander’s army was on the move.
And then he saw him.
Riding a black horse, golden armor gleaming, was the man himself—Alexander the Great.
Talia froze beside Ethan. “It’s really him...”
Alexander dismounted and approached. His eyes locked onto Ethan’s. “You’re not one of mine,” he said flatly.
“I’m from far away,” Ethan answered carefully.
“The High Priest says you appeared in a burst of light,” Alexander said. “He believes you are sent by the heavens. A sign.”
Ethan didn’t reply. Too much truth would only confuse—or get him killed.
Alexander’s expression was unreadable. Then he smiled slightly. “Tell your gods this—Judea will remain strong, as long as it walks with reason and respects power.”
He turned to leave but stopped. “You carry something dangerous. Do not let it rule you.”
And then he was gone, swallowed by soldiers and cheers.
Chapter 20: The Storm Before
Talia and Ethan returned to the city, minds racing. “He knows more than he says,” Talia whispered. “Alexander sees the world like a puzzle. And he thinks we’re part of it.”
That night, tremors rocked the land. The disks glowed again. Ezra cried out in his sleep.
Time was unraveling.
Chapter 21: The Temple’s Warning
They climbed the steps of the still-unfinished Temple. There, they met Shimon HaTzaddik, the High Priest.
“You have brought change upon us,” he said. “I saw it in dreams—flashes of steel birds and burning skies.”
He showed them a hidden chamber beneath the altar. Inside was a mural: three figures standing before a split in the world.
“Past, present, future,” Shimon said. “One must choose.”
Ethan looked at the disks. The Mirror had cracked. One more use, maybe. No more.
Chapter 22: The Decision
A final message came—etched into the air like light: Return the shards to the beginning. Or time will burn.
Ethan knew what he had to do. The first temple, the place of the artifact’s creation—it lay beyond time.
They gathered what they needed. Ezra, still limping but determined, hugged Ethan tightly.
“Come back,” the boy said.
Ethan nodded. “I’ll try.”
He and Talia stood together, holding the shards.
“One more jump,” she said.
And then the light swallowed them.
